Quezon City/Location
Quezon City is 10 kms. North
of Manila. To the City's east are San Mateo (Rizal) and Marikina (Metro Manila);
to the west are San Juan and Manila (both in Metro Manila); to the north are
Kalookan City and San Jose del Monte (Bulacan); and to the south are the cities
of Pasig and Mandaluyong.
Quezon City has a land area of
15,359 hectares. It is five (5) times bigger than Manila and in area, it is
second to the country's biggest city - Davao city.
Rolling hills spread over a
large portion of Quezon city. Its lowest altitude is 25 feet
above sea level, while its highest is 55.
Quezon City was conceived in a
dream of a man incomparable - the late President Manuel Luis Quezon. He
envisioned a place where the common man will find his place with dignity.
In 1938, President Quezon
purchased 1,529 hectares from the vast Diliman Estate of the Tuason Family. The
following year, the National Assembly enacted the Commonwealth Act otherwise
known as the Charter of Quezon City.
On October 12, 1939, President
Quezon signed the Bill into law, thus the city was born. Progress in Quezon City
continued until the outbreak of World War II in 1941.
Seven years later, by virtue
of Republic Act No. 333 signed on July 17, 1948, Quezon city officially became
the capital of the Philippines and the permanent seat of the national
government. Its inauguration as capital city was marked by the laying of a
cornerstone for a capitol building at Constitution Hills on October 22, 1949.
Subsequently, construction of government building began.
On June 16, 1950, the City
Charter was revised by Republic Act No. 537 which extended its boundaries to its
present area of 15,359 hectares or five (5) times bigger than the City of
Manila. It lost its title as capital city of the Philippines to Manila by virtue
of Presidential Decree No. 940 on June 24, 1976.
Although some quarters may
observe that Quezon City today may not be what its founder had conceived it to
be, the efforts made by the past administrations up to the time of incumbent
Mayor Feliciano Belmonte accelerated toward the development and promotion of
the city's tourism potentials, is a great stride towards the realization of the
late President Quezon's vision.
HISTORY OF QC BAHAGHARI
EXECUTIVE LIONS CLUB
The QC Bahaghari Executive
Lions Club was organized in 1993 by the late Lion Ric V. Remigio who also served
as its Charter President.
Durring its first year of
existence, the club had a total membership of 35 members coming from various
fields such as banking, insurance, government service, security and travel and
information technology.
Acknowledging the
importance of cooperation and networking to be able to serve more efficiently
the less privileged members of our society, the Club had organized projects in
association with other clubs within District 301-D1; and outside District 301-D1 notably Lions
clubs belonging under District 301-A1.
Through the years, the
club maintained its number of members to the minimum but quality members who are
all committed to the cause of lionism. In fact, a number of its members has
served already as district chairmen in different standing committees under the
present and previous administrations. The club was also credited with the
establishment of the first New Century Lions Club in the Philippines, the
Philippines QC New Century Club in Lion Year 2002-2003.
Now, on its 10th
year, the QC Bahaghari Executive Lions Club train its sights on giving support
to more basic community needs and the youth. Plans for quality and impact
activities for next year are approved by the board and ready for implementation
depending, however, on the availability of funds.
Our short-term goals
include the recruitment and training of quality members, deeper involvement and
sustained cooperation in Clubs and District activities, organize new clubs and
establish twinning agreements with foreign Lions clubs. Our only long range aim
is to rise above petty and partisan politics that perennially plague and degrade
Philippine lionism.
Inspired by this
phenomenon known as bahaghari, translated in English as Rainbow, the members are
ever committed to carry on God?s handiwork among the sick, the poor and the less
privileged.
PHILIPPINES QC NEW CENTURY LIONS CLUB
The Quezon City Bahaghari Executive
Lions Club was instrumental in forming the Philippines QC New Century Lions
Club. Do visit the site of this club by clicking on their logo seen opposite.
The club boasts 30 members, most in their twenties and eager to promote and further the
cause of Lionism in the Philippines. Our club is extremely proud of this
achievement and will follow the future of this club closely - helping, advising
and motivating as needed.
THREE (3) MORE NEW CLUBS ORGANIZED THIS YEAR 2004
QC Bahaghari Executive LC has successfully organized three (3) more new clubs this LY 2003-04 courtesy of Club President Arnold Tolentino and IPP Jun Urbano. The NCBA (QC)Scholars Campus Lions Club became the first campus LC in District 301-D1. Its charter president, Lion Walter Godoy, vowed to make the club a promising one given the proper guidance from its organizer. The Quezon City Majestic LC was organized as all-women club with Lion Myrna Guiang as its Charter President. Lastly, the Philippine School of Business and Administration (QC) Pioneer Campus LC was organized with all-student members and became the 2nd campus LC of the district. Again, QC Bahaghari Executive LC's reputation as premier club organizer has even more firmed up as ever.
TWINNING ACTIVITIES.

It
started in year 2002 when an unlikely visitor from Australia wrote his ?hello?
note at our website?s message board. Aside from that greeting, he?s requesting
also for a pin exchange deal. Our then 1st VP webmaster now President Arnold A. Tolentino
willingly obliged such request. Lion Nihal Goonetilleke
thereafter offered to develop Wap website for our club free of
charge. After several exchanges of e-mails, Arnold sounded his proposal for Club
Twinning between our two clubs. And the rest is history. The twinning agreement
was signed by Presidents Arnold Tolentino and Steve Liussi respectively through
exchange of documents made via courier.
A visit to Brisbane last year has been
postponed several times already until IPP Jun Urbano pushed through his sojourn
to Australia last December. Jun however was not able to meet any Australian Lion
apparently because all of them were off for a Christmas break.
At any rate, the completed twinning born
through the internet was hailed by no less than our DG Rollie Arce as innovative
and unprecedented. He exhorted all clubs to follow such example.

TWINNING WITH THE PREMIER LIONS CLUB OF THE PHILIPPINES. After several years of partnership in community service, our club and the Manila Host of District 301-A1 finally sealed a club twinning agreement. The agreement was signed during our club's 10th Anniversary & 11th Induction Ceremonies last November 26, 2003 by Presidents Arnold Tolentino and Camilo Padua with DGs Rollie Arce (D 301-D1) and Nena Go(D 301-A1) as witnesses. The twinning is expected to generate more humanitarian activities to be undertaken by both clubs especially in alleviating the conditions of our less fortunate brothers and sisters within Metro Manila and neighboring areas.
