ALBANY LAMPOON “THE CLUB THAT KNOWS HOW” 65th Year May 8, 2008 Edition SECRETARY - JAN VALTR PRESIDENT – RAY ANDERSON EDITOR- BOB NICHOLS LAST MEETING At last weeks meeting we welcomed guest speaker, Albany Chamber member Tod Abbott. Mr. Abbott thanked the Lions for their continued help with community projects in Albany. He spoke about the uncoming events that are planned in Albany, including the Albany centennial and the banners that will be going up over the next couple of weeks. Our Lions club purchased two of those banners. He talked about the 10/15 rebate program, encouraging shoppers to spend their tax rebates in Albany and receive discounts with a card that will be mailed to Albany residents. Mr. Abbott mentioned the upcoming Albany celebration on June 1st that will help to spotlight businesses and promote Albany and will also feature historical displays as well as fire and police vehicle displays. 4th of JULY PANCAKE BREAKFAST & FESTIVITIES Lion Harry reported that he would like to have the pancake breakfast tickets available by next meeting so that we can go out and sell, sell, sell. Lion Bob Uhrhammer will bring the printed tickets next week. Eggs are on the menu are again on the menu. And how do you want your eggs? Well, scrambled of course. Lion Harry double checked and the hall has been secured for our use. Lion Harry also mentioned that he would have a signup sheet in the future for the Dunk Tank duties at the 4th of July festivities. This is to prevent one group of Lions from being stranded there all afternoon. It makes for a very long day, so lets try to each take our turn at the dunk tank and work together for a successful day. OTHER INTERESTING LIONS EVENTS Taste of Albany June 1st will be the Taste of Albany event and Albany Lions will again be manning and womanning the beer garden. The Lion’s location will again be at Lion Don Chelemedos lot on Solano Avenue near Masonic. There will be a stage with non-amplified music. Tickets for the event will be less expensive this year, selling for between $5 and $10. Your Editor will be absent for the next month traveling on business and then watching his daughter graduate from Indiana University. Watch for a Guest Editor LEOS NEWS Lion Bruce reported that Lion Anthony Freeman has volunteered to be the Leo Advisor for the Berkeley Lions Club. SO SORRY Your guest editor here has to apologize for last weeks lampoon that I forgot to change the date of it, so last weeks lampoon should have been dated May 1st not April 17…..sorry for this slip up.
