[ October 25, 2008 Call to order President Lion Walt called to order the regular meeting of the Naturita Basin Valley Lions at 9:05 am on October 25, 2008 in Redvale. Lion Pat gave the invocation and Lion Tess led the Pledge of Allegiance. Roll call Secretary Lion Tess did not conduct a roll call. However, the following persons were present: Lion Robin Andrews, PDG Lion Pat Ditton, Lion Precsilla Lopez, Jesse Lopez, President Lion Walt Ditton, Treasurer Lion Linda Galleon, and Secretary Lion Tess Miller. Approval of minutes from last meeting Secretary Lion Tess Miller did not read the minutes from the last meeting as she had not gotten together with Treasurer Lion Linda Galleon to get the information. The minutes will be put on the webpage. Treasurer Report Treasurer Lion Linda gave the Treasurer?s Report which is attached. Motion was made by Lion Tess and seconded by Lion Pat to table the approval of the report: it was passed. Lion Pat made a motion that the treasurer would pay the International, Multiple District and District bills upon receipt. It was seconded by Lion Precsilla: motion carried. Lion Pat made the motion to accept the Treasurer?s Report as given which was seconded by Lion Tess: Motion carried. Bills & Money Turned In Lion Pat made a motion to ratify the telephone vote for purchase of glasses for local child. Lion Tess seconded and the motion was carried. The club paid half the price and the parent paid the other half. Lion Tess turned in the bill from the Montrose Vision Center that she had paid for with her check card. A motion was made by Lion Pat and seconded by Lion Precsilla to reimburse Lion Tess the $149.00 cost of the glasses: motion carried. Lion Pat made a motion to donate $100.00 to the Grammer family. They had just lost a child in an automobile accident. The motion was seconded by Lion Tess and followed by discussion. It was brought up by Lion Tess that a fundraiser was being held for Rick Kettle in two communities and should we make it an all encompassing motion to donate to both or to have two motions. Lion Precsilla let us know that there were two more families with death and illnesses, although one family was not in need of a donation. It was decided to amend the motion to read: donate $100.00 each to the Kettle, Grammer & Jones families with a sympathy card to the Tomlinson?s. Lions Pat & Tess approved the change: motion carried. Lion Precsilla will send the checks with the appropriate type of cards. A motion was then made to have the person in charge of cards to send out cards at any time he/she feels a card is needed by anyone in the community, by Lion Pat with the second from Lion Linda: motion carried. Lion Pat turned in a bill for $94.45. The Ditton?s had paid for new Santa Beard and Hair at the cost of $46.95, purchased candy for the Santa visit at the price of $40.00 and purchased 500 paper sacks for $7.50. Lion Precsilla made the motion to reimburse Lion Pat and Lion Linda seconded: the motion carried. Lion Pat turned in dues for Lions TK Dargavel, Sandra Esch, and Robin Andrews. Lion Tess turned in $16.88 for Pennies for People. Announcements The next Region 4, Zone 2 meeting will be held on November 15, 2008 at 1pm in Montrose at the Montrose Lions Clubhouse, located at 602 N. Nevada. Project Reports Santa?s Visit: Lion Precsilla reported she had talked to Terry at the Citizen?s State Bank to get permission to hold the visit at the drive-thru driveway. She is going to approach Lloyd Church to be Santa. If not we will ask Jack Andrews. Lion Tess stated she had also spoken to Terry at the Bank to purchase a case of fruit and Kim Haney at the Family Market will also donate a case of fruit. Lion Tess will remind Kim to order them in late November. Lion Pat will have ATS purchase the peanuts and also state the Norwood Branch had a bunch of candy to donate. Calendars: Lion Precsilla advised the club that she and Lion Debbie will be getting started on this next year?s calendar. May Baskets: Lion Linda notified us that the Nucla Library had donated some baskets left over from their yard sale. Mints: Lion Precsilla will get some mints to Lion Walt to set up in Norwood. She still has about 4 cases of mints. Coat Drive: Lion Robin stated that she will not be available to run the giveaway as she will be out of town. She will try to get in to set up the tables the night before. The coat drive will be part of the Pre-Christmas Bazaar held at the school in Norwood, so those of us there will keep an eye on it. Pre-Christmas Bazaar: Lion Pat reported that the Bazaar would be from 9am to 3pm on Saturday, November 1. We will have a bake sale & chili for sale. She stated there were posters put up from Ridgway to Naturita. It has not been done for 1½ years. Lion Pat will contact the Norwood DOT and coordinate a date. Memorials: The memorials for Jessica Ditton were repaired by Lion Walt and Floyd at the school fixed the fence and area around that memorial. New business Family Unit: Lion Tess advised the club about this new International membership program. Lion Tess made a motion that the Naturita Basin Valley Lions adopt this program to help with membership. Lion Pat seconded and the motion carried. Lion Precsilla made the motion to allow $200.00 per year for the secretary to purchase office supplies. The second was made by Lion Linda and discussion was then held. Lion Walt asked if some of the supplies would be used in the projects, and it was decided that yes, especially paper and ink would.
