SubjectPrevention of Blindness
CommentI am hopeful that you will be interested in the following project and able to help us.

I am leading an international nonprofit organization called The Sea To See Project. Our purpose is to sail to areas of the world and work with local organizations to help eliminate avoidable causes of blindness. Our mission is divided into two parts: first, we will work to help solve a supply/need problem by distributing antibiotics and vitamin supplements to areas plagued by avoidable causes of blindness (trachoma and vitamin A deficiency). Second, we will generate publicity through our sail and various media coverage (news, internet, film documentary, seminars) to raise awareness and funds to help combat preventable causes of blindness. The funds we raise will be distributed to organizations around the world we identify as having the greatest need. (You can learn more about us by visiting www.seatosee.org)

It is one of our core values to work in conjunction with organizations local to the areas we visit, to avoid creating a dichotomy between existing efforts and foreign aid. There is much we can learn from all that has been done already, and we feel there is much we have yet to contribute. We aim to collect research from all these areas around the world and publish our findings on the state of these health issues.

We have already forged some very successful relationships with Rotary Clubs in SE Asia and other Lions Clubs in Asia and Africa, and as we plan our route, we hope to include the Thailand. Thus, I would like to forge relationships with key organizations in the Thailand such as your Lions Club. These relationships will be critical to understanding how we might be most helpful and successfully work together. Please, if you could advise on how we might go about building such a relationship with your club (or other local organizations you deem relevant), I would be very grateful. I would be happy to answer any questions you might have, and provide you with additional information upon request.

I very much appreciate your time and consideration, and I look forward to your response.

Many thanks.
