I'm the coordinator of the Pioneer Family Festival in Oregon City. I have inquired about the Lion's Mobile Screening Unit and the posibility of scheduleing it to be a part of our event which is sponsored by the Oregon City Optimist Club. Our event is at Clackamette Park on May 13-15th, 2005. We need a Lion's Club to schedule and sponsor the Screening Unit. Would your club be interested or know a club that would be. This is an even promoted county wide on TV and Radio. This year our Radio promotion will be provided by The Buzz and The Wolf.

I hope you can help us in our effort to help kids!

I am the general manager of Club Fed Fitness Center at Bonneville Power Administration in Portland. I am in the process of planning our health fair to be held on May 19, 2005. I am wondering if you would like to participate in our event (no charge), there are a few thousand employees here, every year we have health/fitness related vendors come, set up a table and provide screenings or information to inform and educate.

CommentMy name is De Nae Stites and I live at Ridings Terrace Aparmtent Complex located in Molalla, OR. I am writing to Lions CLub hoping you can help me and the other patrons of Ridings Terrace. I recently moved to Ridings Terrace back in March, once I found out I was pregnant. I am due to have my daughter September 23, 2004. I have two cousins that live here and they have no where to play. I rencently wrote a letter to the apartment managers of Ridings Terrace about my concerns about the wooden playground that the children have access to. I explained my concerns about how the playground being madeout of wood was slick and slippery when it got rained on, how children get splinters in their feet, that there were nails and bolts sticking out of the wooden playground, how the plastic slide was proped up on a wooden block and was cracked and the slide leaned to one side making the children fall off, and last how that when you put pressure on one side of the playground it would sway back and forth. After they received my letter of concern they tacked in the nails that were sticking out and removed the unsafe slide. I feel though that this wooden structure is very unsafe and needs to be torn down. I feel for the children of Ridings Terrace because they do not a play structure to play on. The manager informed me that he paid and put up that playground over 8 years ago and it got ruined over time and that he would not pay for another playground. The childten have no play ground equipment and no where to play at Ridings Terrace. During the summer time the children play out in the parking lot of the apartment complex, but that causes concern of them running into the parked cars with their toys and bikes and also parents running a risk of hitting a child in the parking lot. The reason I explained this to you is because I am wanting to inquire information if the Lions CLub has a grant for low income housing apartment complex for a new playground? Do you have grants available, if you do have grants available what are your procedures on filing or getting a grant? If a grant is not an option would your organization be able to help with a fundraiser? If you donīt have grants available can you refer me to another orgnanization that might be able to help?
I feel that the children of Ridings Terrace need a safe place to play in their apartment complex. Having a new playground will entertain the children, allowing the children to interact with other children in the complex, they will be safe, and there would be less children playing out in the palyground. If you have any information, comments, or question helping me with my research for grants for a new playground I would greatly appreciate all advise that I can get.
