| Subject | propositions 11 and 10, the untold truths |
| Comment | Sir, Texans need your help. Proposition #11 isn't all that 'politicians' purport it to be. Just the opposite... Prop.11 is purely a counterfeit eminent domain legislation that helps private utility companies, common carriers, and other ENTITIES far more than private property owners. We refer to these politicians as lawmakers... but legislators do not currently have the legal statutory authority to grant eminent domain powers to private utility companies. Prop.11 would give these politicians that legal right to dole out these abusive land grabbing powers. Legislators changed the enabling a few times. The first change is when these politicians put in the words that the Legislature could grant utility providers (these are non-governmental utility providers such as your phone and electric coops, private water company, and even your local cable provider)the abusive power of eminent domain. If these politicians didn't intend to dole out these eminent domain powers to private companies... then WHY did they slip this wording into the enabling ligislation HJR14? Public use is still poorly defined. Urban blight has several meanings under the laws of this state. Legislators even removed wording that would've required 'JUST' compensation being paid for land 'taken'. Politicians still exempted the State from paying money upfront when land is 'taken'. An entity can ''take' one's land for 'public use' and transfer it to a private entity if... the primary purpose of the 'taking' IS NOT for economic development or tax enhancement!!! Loopholes abound... for the politicians. Do you want private non-governmental utility companies and common carriers gaining the abusive powers of eminent domain? Of course not. Please say "NO" to Proposition #11. On Prop.#10, ballot wording is intentionally confusing. Concerning the extension of the terms of office for ESD Board Members from the current 2 year term to a longer 4 year term... ballot wording states 'elected ESD Boards...' BUT... the enabling legislation HJR85 never mentions either elected or appointed. The Office of the Secretary of the State confirmed that Prop. 10 applies to both appointed and elected ESD Boards. In Texas, most Counties (through their respective Commissioners Court) appoint their ESD Boards. This is taxation without representation! Very few counties elect their ESD Boards. These appointed ESD Boards (unaccountable to the voters) do levy taxes upon us and therefore should NOT be in an appointed office that levies taxes.... for 4 long years. Please say "NO" to Proposition #10. Please pass this info on to others. Michael L. Maurer, Sr. 16129 Hwy. 46 W. Spring Branch, TX 78070 830-660-9465 |

| Subject | Graduate School Scholarships |
| Comment | Hi! In 2003, I was one of the Jefferson High School graduates awarded a scholarship through your chapter. I am extremely grateful to have been honored as a recipient, as your scholarship helped to relieve the financial burden of college and thus allowed me to succeed during my first semester at Yale. I will now be entering graduate school at the University of Michigan to study Urban Planning. I was wondering if your chapter awards scholarships for graduate students, and if so, if you could explain to me when and how to apply. If your chapter does not have the funds, do you know of any San Antonio chapters which do award scholarships for graduate students? Thank you so much. |

| Subject | Endorsement or sponsorship of El Salvadorian denta |
| Comment | I am a local dentist. I have been to El Salvador recently and performed a week worth of dental care at a small village known as El Cuco. The need is great there and I plan to return on a regular basis. I have recently purchased a two-chair mobile dental clinic (specialized motorhome) and plan to take it to El Cuco and leave it there to work out of. My two hygienists and I are returning in June. I personally plan to go about every three months for a week or so. With the portable dental clinic there, I will also be able to allow other dental volunteers to use it as well. When I was there, I noticed there was a Lion's Club dental clinic in the largest town that is about 1 1/2 hr drive away. I know that Lion's Club is active in Mexico and in Central America. I would like to talk to you about endorsing this venture. If I was affiliated with The Lion's Club, it may help me to drive safely through Mexico with this motorhome without anyone thinking it is to be used for profit. My thoughts are that the Lion/Club afiliation will make it obvious that it is a charitable venture and will prevent trans-migration taxation and other potential dangers that I could encounter on the road. Once it is in El Cuco, I also think the affiliation would be helpful. I am not necessarily asking for financial help, although it would be appreciated. My plan is to fund this mission personally. I have already spent alot and my plan is to continue spending to create a first class dental facility where free treatment can be performed on those folks that do not have what we have available to us here in the US. I also think it would be possible to use the facility to train the dental students in San Salvador. I have even thought about the possibility of career opportunities this could create through the training of local people with dental laboratory procedures, dental assisting, etc. I think it could also be inspiring for the local children that could decide that this is a career path that they could follow. It could stimulate college ambitions. Please respond with your thoughts. Thank you. John Leland, DDS 210-6470077 doc@lelanddentalcare.com |
