CommentI'm getting ready to compete in the Miss California Latina pageant. As a contestant, I need your help to raise money.

Coming from a low income, single parent household, and being a survivor of domestic violence at home, I once thought that opportunities like excelling in school and realizing my leadership potential were out of reach. With a 1.6 GPA, I became two years behind in school. I enrolled in the Academy of Business Leadership (ABL). After completing the program, I returned to high school and graduated with a 3.8 GPA, and I am now in college. I learned about core values such as courage, and about financial independence, the stock market, and writing a business plan. Even though our family still struggles to eat by visiting local food banks, I know everything will be okay. Struggling with depression and panic attacks, I grew to learn I was not a victim of my own thoughts. My dream is to become the next Miss America. Recently I competed in the Miss Los Angeles pageant. Next I will be a contestant for the Miss California Latina pageant. I have exercised my leadership skills by volunteering for the Barack Obama campaign and shook his hand! I have successfully organized presentations to over 40,000 students throughout the Orange and Los Angeles County areas and strategically initiated the President & CEO’s appearance on the Tyra Banks Show. In addition, I orchestrated her nomination for the Montel Williams Show “Voices Award“ both resulting in grants totaling $30,000. I plan to transfer to UCLA. I would like to make a difference in the lives of millions around the country. If given, this opportunity will set me on a path to a future of community service.

The MISS CALIFORNIA LATINA and MISS TEEN CALIFORNIA LATINA Pageant is a celebration of beauty, style and cultural appreciation, emphasizing on the opportunity for personal development while impacting the community.

Each contestant for the 2009 competition will have space below their official photograph in the program book to list all their sponsors. The space will be enough only to include your company name or individual names.

CommentI have some old eye glasses (prescription I believe) that my grandfather owned before he died. I understand you guys collect them to give out to vets? If true, I would love to know how to get them to you for donation! Merry Christmas!
