SubjectParticipants for Healthy Child Project
CommentHello,

I am writing in hopes that you will circulate among your members the following opportunity which invites people to participate in the research project entitled, "Building Healthy Children:Education, Medicine and the Healthy Child
in English Canada, 1850-1950".

Dr. Mona Gleason, from the University of BC is researching the history of children’s medical treatment in Canada between 1850 and 1950. It is the first history of its kind
in the Canadian context. As part of this larger project, Dr. Gleason is interested in interviewing people who grew up in Canada between 1904 and 1960 and who would be willing to share their memories regarding health and illness in childhood.

We realize that Newfoundland did not joing confederation until 1949; but we are particularly interested in the experiences of children who grew up in Newfoundland during this time period.

Topics that may be covered in the area of health are broad and may include memories of learning about health in school and/or at home, getting vaccinated, using traditional and /or home remedies, and receiving support in times of ill-health from a parent, elder, sibling, or other caregivers. The
interview lasts no more than one hour and a $20.00 honorarium is provided to each participant.

If you are interested in participating, you can contact me at lori.mcfadyen@mail.mcgill.ca, or call me at 514 483 3945 (Montreal, QC), you can contact Dr. Gleason at mona.gleason@ubc.ca, or by phone at: 604 822 4762.

I hope that this study will be of interest to your members, and that they will be interested in sharing their stories with Dr.Gleason. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
