SubjectShalom center referral for emregency rental assist
CommentDate: November 19, 2009

To Whom It May Concern:

Phillip Williams is known to us at the Shalom Community Center, and we verify that he has come to us seeking assistance on his rent. He has full custody of his two children, but has run into some financial difficulties due to child support that he recently discovered he owed prior to gaining full custody of his sons. He owes $589 and has been able to pay $510 himself, leaving only $79 outstanding. We regret that we have just run out of funds for the month of November and are unable to assist him at this time. We therefore greatly appreciate any assistance you can give Mr. Williams as he strives to take responsibility for his family and court obligations. Mr Williams Can Be reached at: 317-796-8083 or 812-330-6676

Sincerely, Ruth Thilen (Shalom Center) (812)334-5728

SubjectThank You from the Indiana Dream Team!
CommentMr. Dunn- We thank you for the canning jars you left on our front porch. Our garden and canning was a tremendous success this year. We're sorry we missed you. We would have liked to talk to you. We'd be happy to come and speak with your club about IDt and the youth and families we serve. Just let us know. Have a blessed day!

SubjectFundraising for my daughter
CommentI was referred to the Lions Club by one of my daughter's doctors. My daughter, Eliza, is almost 3. Before she was born, we were told that she would not be able to see, hear, swallow, walk or talk. We were given the most prognosis. For some as yet undiscovered reason, her brain was underdeveloped.

We knew that we could not give up on her. We found a neurologist who could offer us some hope and we went forward hoping for the best. Eliza has had extensive therapies since she was 6 months old. She can sit up, crawl, pull up, and has pretty strong opinions about what she likes and dislikes (as most 2 1/2 year old do). She has Cortical Visual Impairment, Cerebral Palsy, and global developmental delays. Despite her challenges, she continues to progress and to teach us more about love and determination everyday.

In trying to do all that we can for our daughter, we would like to give her Hyperbaric treatments at the Wisconsin Integrative Hyperbaric Center. The course of 40 treatments, not covered by insurance, cost thousands of dollars. My husband and I have been looking into fundraising options. We would like to be able to offer people who donate a tax deduction for their donation, but as I have just discovered, we need to have non-profit status.

When discussing this with friends and doctors, we were told about the Lions Club and their focus on children with visual impairments. I am wondering if it would be possible to fundraise for Eliza's treatment in conjunction with the Lions Club. We would do all the heavy lifting, hiring someone to put together a website, etc.

I know this is an unorthodox request. As Eliza's mom, I am compelled to try everything, to put her story out there, and to ask for help because she cannot do it for herself.

Thank you for reading my email.
