| Subject | Long Walk - Progress report |
| Comment | Lion John Olsen is fast approaching the realisation of his life ambition to walk west to east across Australia and to raise money for children suffering from cerebral palsy and leuokodystrophy. While not likely to break the existing record west/east across Australia walk of 115 days - with the help of friends, two philanthropic trusts and Lions Clubs across Australia he has already raised round $50,000 of his anticipated target of $200,000. Thank you all. |

| Comment | As a fellow Lion, I would like to congratulate John & the Geelong Lions for the walk John across Australia. I heard John on Australia All Over this morning. I hope he is OK. I will try to get some financial support from the Sorell Lions for this project. Graeme Evans |

| Subject | Lion John Olsen - "Longest Walk for an Aussie Kid |
| Comment | Lion John Olsen is at it again - not satisfied with his 4,660 km walk from the Tip of Cape York Peninsula to the southern most tip of Tasmania in 2004 - he is now planning and in training for a West coast to East coast walk across Australia to Byron Bay - and then a 1,800 kms winding down stroll from Byron Bay to his hometown Geelong - why is he doing this - he first wants to break the exisiting 115 day record for walking across Australia though more importantly - to raise $200,000 for kids suffering from cerebral palsy and leukodystrophy. Already the holder of a David Hart Gold Champion Award for his last long distance fundraising walk - John is chafing at the bit to commence his next walk in June 2008 - and is hoping that you and Lions Clubs through-out Australia will give him support. Watch this space for further developments. Your enquiries to Lion Brian Edward on Phone (03) 52 226986 please. |

| Subject | Lion John Olsen - Long distance walker |
| Comment | Hi all - Lion John Olsen is now preparing for his June 2008 "Longest Walk for an Aussie Kid" record breaking attempt to walk across Australia - West to East in 103 days and to then walk from Byron Bay to Geelong (a total of 7,000 kilometres) to support his endeavour to raise $200,000 for children suffering from cerebral palsy and leukodystrophy. Why not give him that all importatnt moral support by contacting me to learn how you can sponsor John at 1 cent per kilometer ($70) to support his fundraising goals. Best of luck John - you have our full support. |

| Subject | BODMIN LIONS/BODMIN COLLEGE JAZZ ORCHESTRA TOUR TO |
| Comment | Dear Geelong Lions Club Please forgive me for this ‘shot in the dark’ but I have a problem! My name is ADRIAN EVANS and I am the Director of Music at BODMIN COLLEGE, Cornwall, England PL31 1DL UK and in October my college Jazz Orchestra is visiting Geelong as guests of ‘The Jazz Syndicate’ from Belmont High School. This is a reciprocal exchange and our hosts will visit us next July. MY PROBLEM……. Bodmin Lions Club have sponsored us in a big, big way for us to undertake this tour….we have in fact raised just over £30.000 already with 5K to go! Part of our ‘plan’ is to make a much more serious link for the future between our two schools if this forthcoming tour is a success…..both cultural and academic….perhaps not sport! [yet!] I am not a member of our local Lions club but one of our school governors is….a former president in fact. He would dearly like to accompany us on this tour for school purposes essentially, but possibly also wearing his ‘Lions cap’ but I just cannot ask my opposite number in Belmont H.S. to find yet another host family at such short notice considering that he is not an essential part of the team. I have mulled this problem over for a week or so and our only possibility of fixing him up with a host family is to try the ‘Lions network’! If our plan regarding forging strong links between the two schools were to come to fruition then perhaps further links between our prospective Lions clubs could be an interesting development. If you can help I would be most appreciative and the possibility for one or more of your members being involved in a reciprocal exchange with our Bodmin Lion could be an interesting opportunity to visit the UK and forge some club links. We have ‘twin-towns’ in Germany, France and California; the link with California is a strong one as the town of Grass Valley has direct links with Cornwall through its mining heritage….just so with the state of Victoria I believe….perhaps a ‘twinning’ could be in the pipeline if our visit were a success. When THE JAZZ SYNDICATE visit us next July they have already been booked for a major Lions charitable event in our town. We always help them out. Anyway, by now you have an idea of my problem. If you can help our ‘lion’ I had better give you a brief outline of the person concerned: his name is ALAN WITTS who is a retired police sargeant with the Devon and Cornwall Constabulary….he’s about 63 I believe and is a very active and effective governor of our school. He is also a much respected member of our community. There you go…I hope you can help. In any case, very warm greetings from sunny Cornwall…the English Riviera! All good wishes, Adrian Evans.
