Respected Sir,
We introduce ourselves as a new Medical Collage in the State. As you know very well, we don?t need any other Medical Collage in the State. We are trying ourselves as a different Collage, in line with prestigious Institues of the country. Department of Microbiology is having two Profossers Dr.Radhakutty Amma former HOD of Aleppy Medical Collage and Dr.Ambica Devi former Prof. of Trivandrum and Co operative Collage Cochin. Dr.Radhakutty Amma is the founder of Virology Institute Aleppy. Both of them have more than three decades of experience behind them. Myself have done training in CMC, Vellore. Our Community Medicine Department is another asset of the Institution which have made a mark of it?s own.
We are putting a proposal to establish a Fever Research Foundation that will provide the basic clinical and experimental data, which is grossly lacking in this part of the country. Already this center is established center in Leptospira research; and contributions of this information as an etilogical agent for PUO have revolutionized our understanding of fever. We are proud this crucial piece of information would have saved thousands of lives. We would like to extend the facility to Dengue Virus, Malaria and Salmonella.
This monsoon season have costed us around 300 precious lives and made scores of people in bed both in home and hospital alike. The out break is still continuing, even when you are reading this letter. No medical personal and organizations can wash hand from this responsibility. Our public health care sector have it?s own limitations in addressing these issues. As these are days of privatization we believe our center can act prompt appropriate steps faster and efficiently than official red tape machinery.
We are planning to be prepared for the next pre monsoon season. What we are planning is atleast to do investigations for Leptospira, Dengue fever, Malaria and Salmonella for all cases of fever admitted in Ernakulam District. We are planning to charge who ever can afford but unless we do test on atleast some 10000 cases we donot know the etiolgical epidemiology of fever. This will form the basic data for future control ,preventive and curative measures. We estimate atleast 9000 subsidised or free investigations, which will need around Rs 10 lacs. This being not a Government center it is difficult for us to get funding from the Government at this stage. We appeal your organization to meet whatever funds possible and if possible let us know some funding sources within the State. This is a non profit venture I personally believe since our intentions are fair the funding will follow our work.
