SubjectDestitute young person - Etienne
CommentMy sister lives in Pretoria and has been approaching all kinds of shelters, etc but to no avail. She regularly sees a young 20 year old white boy who has been put out on the streets because his parents are unable to support him. He is living on the streets, unable to get employment or help of any kind. My sister buys him a meal whenever she sees him. She feels that he would be able to mould into society if given a chance. He is ashamed of what has happened to him but cannot find a way to get out of the situation. He told her that if a shelter of some kind could be found he would gladly enter it. At the age of 20, none of the children's shelters will help him. He regularly gets beaten up by the street wise criminals. The situation seems so hopeless for him. Are you able to point us in the right direction to get help for this young man?

SubjectCommunity service and sponsorship
CommentHi there,
I am involved in career development in the Olievenhoutbosch squatter camp for high school students using first aid as the platform.
The High School I have been involved with for the past 6 years have decided to "adopt" grade 8's from the community and afford them the same opportunities of formal training, practical experience, tours and a step towards a medical career. We need to do fund raising to obtain uniforms, printing of manuals and providing transportation for these children.
Obviously this is a long term project and each year the children will be re-investing any funds they make into a designated charity. Next year we are going to be supporting a new hospice by means of physical assistance and sponsorship of any money made by means of fund raising.

Who can I get hold of to assist us in launching this project?

Yours sincerely
