SubjectAssistance for disabled
CommentHello! I work at PARI Independent Living Center serving people with disabilities in Rhode Island. I first heard about Lions Club when I was a missionary in Guatemala with Habitat. Habitat & Lions worked together to provide huge donations of eyeglasses- which we picked up in barrells and brought to our Guatemalan village in Cantel. Anyway- now I am in R.I. and there is such a need to install adaptive equipment for people with disabilities. Right now I have an 83 year old man with Parkinsons who badly needs to have some railings intalled in his home. He would be eligilbe through a program we offer at PARI - but it will be a YEAR before he can get them. I have gone to some homes and people have shown me ramps that the Lions Club has built for them. Would railings be something you would consider doing? It is hard for the elderly to have to wait so long. Please contact me at my email address if you all would be able to help in any way.

Sincerely,
Denise

SubjectThe American Red Cross would like the opportunity
CommentSince January first, the American Red Cross of Rhode Island volunteers have provided emergency food, clothing and shelter to more than 80 Rhode Islanders, who have been displaced as the result of a house fire. While winter is traditionally the busiest time of year for fire-related emergencies, the past few weeks have been a particularly challenging. All of this assistance is provided by the Red Cross free of charge, but we typically spend between $500 and $1,000 per family we assist and must raise the money to provide emergency services when Rhode Islanders need it most.

I am writing to find out if there is an opportunity for the Red Cross to come to a Lions Club meeting and share with your members the important work the Red Cross is doing in your community and ways your organization can support the Red Cross.

We look forward to hearing from you.

SubjectFree eye screening clinic
CommentHello, My name is Berta Vernon-Lee, I am the health coordinator at the Genesis Center, a place that services immigrants and refugees. Our learners are low income and many do not health insurance or access to health care. I was told that your organization provides free eye exams and glasses to people that need them. I wanted to know if it would be possible for your organization to come to our Center and perform free eye screenings some time during the spring or summer. Please let me know,I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Thank You Very Much,
Berta Vernon-Lee
