The Association of people with Disability (APD) since its inception in 1959 has focused through its various programs on comprehensive rehabilitation of disabled people especially from impoverished segment of our society. We are engaged in total rehabilitation of disabled persons by providing all necessary interventions. This ranges from therapeutic services to improve functional abilities, to provide mobility aids, counseling, education, career guidance, training and livelihood. At any point of time we are facilitating qualitative transformation in the lives of around 14,000 persons with various disabilities. However, with all humility but with conviction we wish to add that our effort though substantial, is just like a drop in the ocean, considering the fact that there are about 75 million people with disability in India. We can only inspire, and encourage others to lend their hands to meet this enormous challenge. This could only be done with your kind support and help in bringing awareness, and to reach out to people, organizations, business enterprises and the government to join hands in tackling this immense task. One of our programs is Orthotic Centre, where we provide assistive devices that are fit for the purpose and enhances mobility by opening up a world of education, work and social life for persons with disabilities. The assistive devices are designed to meet the health and life style needs of the users. This is made of high quality materials with low pricing. The benefits of assistive devices for persons with disabilities are they can be independent, able to socialize with family and friends, more involved in everyday activities, improved health, reduced risk of postural deformities, independent and increased quality of life. We have put "better care" for Individual Customers, Partnering Clinics, Schools, NGO’s and Hospitals at the center of our approach. Under this scheme Trust will take care of the services of Blind Student by providing Scholarships / financial Assistance , Tape Reorders, Brail watches, Brail literature in the form of cassettes, computers, food to needy, medicines, kits, uniforms and other social welfare activities for the visually impaired students. The Trust has started to award SCHOLARSHIPS to BLIND STUDENTS not only during 2004-2005 but also during 2005-2006 & 2006-07, 2007-08,2008-09. So far the Trust has awarded 141 visually impaired Students of both Rural Urban areas.
