EASTER 2009

Our giant Easter Egg Competition, a new event this year, raised around £500 for our charity funds. Tickets were sold in the town on the Saturdays leading up to Easter and also at 3 pubs in the area.

The New Xmas float team were again in action doing collections at Asda and the Co-op and raised a further £600. The fund now stands at £5834.21,

CHRISTMAS 2007

Christmas was a busy time for our club with 15 nights out on the float (pictured right) in all weathers. Thanks are due to the various businesses and friends who helped us to man it. In addition we did a pub collection, a Gala Evening at the local sports centre for 200 handicapped and helpers, some Xmas parcels, and Saturdays at the local supermarkets- see opposite for details.

As a result of our efforts almost £3,000 was collected on the float, and £750 on the pub collection night. In addition the collections at the supermarkets are detailed in the opposite column.

The Xmas float (pictured here) has served us and the community of St Austell very well over a number of years, and is nearing the end of its life. We need a replacement and during the last few months we have been raising funds for this. In addition we have applied for a lottery grant, and the Coop have given us a generous donation of £2000. The supermarket collections went very well and the 3 Saturday events totalled £2,272.

To date we have raised over £5000, a commendable effort in such a short time. If anyone would like to help with this appeal please contact Bryan Arthur on 01726 77193 or email MBPennycoed@aol.com

The Duck Race season is now finished with takings in excess of 4,000 which will be donated to charitable causes. £500 has already gone to the St. Austell Hospital League of Friends and the rest will go to Childline (NSPCC) and local primary schools.

Thanks are due to all helpers who turned out in the poor weather in July and beginning of August, but primarily to the general public who supported the races by sponsoring the ducks.

Our Environmental Project is in conjunction with the Cornwall County Council's Environment & Heritage Service to help to maintain part of the St. Austell to Mevagissey cycle and walking trail. We have spent 8 evenings clearing the worst sections, and the path is now passable with ease and enjoyment. We have been thanked by the many users. Last October officers from the County Council officially inspected the 'new' path and presented us with a commemorative plaque, followed by a mobile refreshment reception. After all the hard work, a monthly clean is all that is required to maintain the path.

We have made a donation of £1000 to the Boscastle Flood Appeal. In addition, the club has made a major contribution to the local fire service. Our donation of £1,000 is to help a scheme to provide fire alarms for needy families. A recent survey has shown that fires are much more common in homes without the protection of an alarm.
